laying it all on the line

*via quote book
"This is currently my truth.
Already I have changed several things that needed
changing, and on the horizon are many more
challenges. I can see them coming.
And I welcome them.
I didnt choose this life to become a passenger,
I am most alive when I grab the wheel and
steer my own course, chart my own life.
I dont want to just sit back and see what happens.
I have dreams, I have goals.
I want to explore.
And nothing will hold me back anymore."

A new dawning, a day of hope.

"In one moment my world changed.
That's how it felt.
I didnt see that underneath the surface that change had
been a gradual thing spreading undetected for weeks now.
It took me so long to notice it.
But once I did it swept through me like a hurricane.
I realised that everything we had was gone.
And I felt no pain. No tears.
Just acceptance.
Like a vast forest with no trees.
I saw the sun and it was shining.
Life was returning.
There was new growth on the ground.
Hope was alive."

Changing the molecules

"You changed me.
I would be a fool not to admit it.
Knowing you made me a different person.
There was no way anyone could be the same
after going through all of that.
Part of life is accepting change and growing with it.
As each minute passes we are not who we were.
We cant be.
Things change every second and so do we.
Love is about growing together.
I wanted you to be who you said you were.
But you left me cold.
Love is about honesty and trust and friendship.
And although you changed me the fundamental
basics stayed the same.
I was honest, I was open, I gave my all.
And I am willing to do it all again.
But things will be different,
I wont be with you."

Change and travel

“Change will not come if we wait for some other person
or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.
We are the change that we seek.”
Barack Obama

“You’ll never find the right person,
if you never let go of the wrong one.”

There's a place

We all have a special place and someone who knows our secrets.
Sometimes these both must change.
But eventually there will be a new place and a new someone.

A new dawn

It just so happened that I was awake at 4am this morning (the only time not being able to sleep is a good thing) and so I turned the tv on to watch the Obama Inauguration live. I was so humbled and honoured and proud to be sitting there watching and as he took the official oath I found myself crying -but tears of happiness for a change. What a really great speech too. This feels so good for my soul.

“ Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek. "

"People will judge you on what you can BUILD, not what you destroy."

the aftermath

I'm not sure how I thought I would feel if this day ever came, if I ever woke up in the morning and realised it all wasnt just a dream. If I realised that America turned hope into reality and made Barack Obama their next president. I dont know how I thought I would feel but I do know how I am feeling right now. It feels good. It feels like a little light inside us all just got a bit brighter. Now I know that this doesnt change the past but I believe that it gives a lot of hope to the future. We have eliminated that shred of doubt that true change can move a nation. The fact is that regardless of the color of his skin - Barack is an incredible person. And because of the color of his skin he has changed the world. It shouldnt make a difference, but it does. It is just a fact, and through this fact the difference of color has faded a little. All differences have faded a little. We have become more united than ever. We all start to believe that maybe we can.
The empowerment has begun.

stories

I think I have said before on here that "everyone has a story, but not everyone wants to hear it." The meaning of that statement is we all go through things, we all live our lives and experience different events and situations that, as well as changing us, often make good stories. I sometimes forget my good stories. I keep a lot of them locked away until the time is right. I'm not the type of person who tells strangers the stuff of my soul (though this blog somewhat changes that fact). Like a good book you have to read a few chapters before you get to the good indepth tales. So in that way sometimes people dont want to put in the effort and then they dont get the stories.

I sometimes forget just how much I have been through and how many interesting things that I have done. If you sit anyone down and spend time with them and ask them about their lives - it would be rare to find anyone without atleast a few interesting stories. You never know what the person you are talking to has been through. You dont know the events that shaped him, and you dont know the words that hurt her. You dont know what made him cry and what her ultimate passion is. And without that knowledge we cant honestly judge people. You dont know what they have been through. So, instead, we should cultivate an environment of sharing and appreciation. Maybe then the stories that have changed our lives for the better can change other peoples lives too.

people

Sometimes people can change your life.

If you let them.

We are fooling ourselves if we think that we can do it all on our own.

We need to connect.

It is in our nature.

I did a search on 'change your life' and was amazed at just how many "self help" books claimed to be able to do so. They even set time limits! 'Change your life in 30 days!' 'Change your day in 3 cycles.' 'Change your life in 300 pages!' There are a lot of unhappy and unfulfilled people out there. More so, it seems, than ever before. How is this so? I think that we expect a lot more than our parents and grandparents ever did. And expectation isnt always a good thing. When we go from hope and dream to expect, a lot of things get lost - humanity for example. Anyway thats enough ramblings from me for now.
